How to Choose the Right CBD Dosage
The number-one question new CBD users ask is: how much should I take?
There is no universal answer. CBD dosing depends on your body weight, your individual biology, the product format, and what you are trying to support. But there is a smart way to figure out the right dose for you without guessing.
Why There Is No One-Size-Fits-All Dose
CBD interacts with your endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is unique to you. Factors that influence how you respond to CBD include:
- Body weight. Larger bodies generally need higher doses.
- Metabolism. Faster metabolisms process CBD more quickly.
- Experience level. First-time users are often more responsive to lower doses.
- Product type. CBD oil, capsules, gummies, and topicals are all absorbed differently.
- Individual biology. Genetics, diet, and lifestyle all play a role.
This is why a dose that works for one person may not work for another. The goal is to find your personal minimum effective dose -- the smallest amount that gives you the results you want.
Starting Dose Guidelines
A common starting point is 1 to 6 milligrams of CBD per 10 pounds of body weight per day. Here is a rough guideline:
Under 150 lbs: Start with 10-15mg per day
150-200 lbs: Start with 15-25mg per day
Over 200 lbs: Start with 25-35mg per day
These are starting points, not final doses. Begin at the low end, maintain that dose for a full week, and evaluate how you feel before adjusting.
Dosing by Product Type
CBD Oil. Our 1000mg CBD Oil contains approximately 33mg per full dropper. A half dropper gives you roughly 16-17mg. Our 2500mg CBD Oil contains approximately 83mg per full dropper, making it better for people who need higher doses.
Capsules. Our 750mg CBD Capsules contain a pre-measured amount per capsule. Capsules are the simplest way to get a consistent dose every time.
Gummies. Our CBD + CBN Gummies contain a pre-measured amount per gummy. Start with one gummy and assess before taking more.
Topicals. Our 500mg CBD Topical Cream is applied directly to the skin. Use a dime-sized amount and apply to the target area. Add more as needed.
How to Adjust Your Dose
Follow this simple process:
Week 1: Start at the low end of the range for your weight. Take the same dose at the same time every day.
Week 2: If you are not noticing any difference, increase your dose by 5mg per day. Maintain this new dose for a full week.
Week 3 and beyond: Continue adjusting in 5mg increments every 7 days until you find your sweet spot. When you notice consistent results, you have found your dose.
If you take too much: CBD is generally well-tolerated. If you experience drowsiness, digestive discomfort, or other mild effects, reduce your dose. Talk to your doctor if you have concerns.
When to Take CBD
There is no universal "best time." It depends on your goals:
Morning: Many people take CBD in the morning as part of their daily supplement routine.
Evening: If sleep support is your priority, taking CBD (especially with CBN) in the evening may be more helpful.
Twice daily: Some people split their dose between morning and evening for more consistent support throughout the day.
After activity: If you are using CBD for post-exercise recovery, taking it after your workout or activity makes sense.
Keep a Simple Log
For your first few weeks, write down:
- What product you took
- How many milligrams
- What time of day
- A brief note on how you felt
After two to three weeks, you will have enough data to see patterns and make informed adjustments. This is more reliable than trying to remember day-by-day.
Talk to Your Doctor
If you take prescription medications, talk to your doctor before starting CBD. CBD can interact with certain medications, particularly those metabolized by the liver enzyme CYP450. A quick conversation with your healthcare provider can help you use CBD safely.
